Frequently asked questions

How much does MAT SACCO cost to get?

Nothing. There's no software purchase, licence, setup fee, server or hosting cost, and no developers to hire. Registering your SACCO and setting it up is free.

So what do we pay for?

Only the matatus you onboard: KES 100 per matatu per day, about KES 3,000 per matatu a month. That gives your SACCO the full system, every feature included. Add or retire a vehicle and the next bill follows your fleet.

Who pays: the SACCO or the vehicle owners?

Your SACCO's choice. The SACCO can pay the full amount, the matatu owner can pay the full amount, or you can split it however you agree. Owners get their own view of their vehicle's trips and collections either way.

Do passengers need an account or an app?

No. Passengers look up a vehicle by its number plate or QR code in any phone browser.

How do plate payments work?

The passenger pays the SACCO's Paybill using the vehicle's registration number as the account number. A payment shows as received only after Safaricom confirms it, and it is matched to the vehicle automatically. Unclear payments go to the SACCO's review queue.

Does the platform hold SACCO or owner money?

No. Money goes to the SACCO's own Paybill. The platform keeps the records, does the reconciliation and produces owner statements, following each SACCO's agreed rules.

Can a vehicle have more than one owner?

Yes. Ownership is recorded with shares and dates, and the full history is kept when a vehicle changes hands.

Is a document "verified" once it's uploaded?

No. An upload stays "unverified" until authorised SACCO staff record how they checked it.
